NDLI: Synthesis, Crystal Structure and Luminescent Property of a 1D Chain Hg(II) Coordination Polymer Based on 4-Cyanopyridine

Abstract	A novel 1D chain Hg(II) coordination polymer catena-(bis(μ$_{2}$-chloro)-bis(4-cyanopyridyl))-mercury(II) [Hg(μ$_{2}$-Cl)$_{2}$(4-CNpy)$_{2}$]$_{n}$ (1) (where 4-CNpy is 4-cyanopyridine) has been synthesized in DMF solution with 4-CNpy and HgCl$_{2}$. The polymer was characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis, FTIR and X-ray powder diffraction. The crystal belongs to orthorhombic system, space group Fdd $_{2}$. The cell parameters are: a = 23.729(8) Å, b = 59.83(2) Å, c = 3.913(1) Å, V = 5556(3) Å$^{3}$, Z = 16, μ (Mo Kα) = 11.455 mm$^{−1}$, F(000) = 3552, R $_{1}$ = 0.0370, wR $_{2}$ = 0.1051 [I > 2σ(I)]. The Hg(II) atoms locate in distorted coordination octahedron and are bridged by four chloride ions to form a 1D chain, and the remaining two coordination sites are occupied by two pyridine N atoms of 4-CNpy molecules. The 1D chain extends in the c direction. The experimental results show that 1 has good luminescence property and could be used as potential optical materials.A 1D Hg(II) coordination chain polymer of 4-cyanopyridine was synthesized and characterized. The solid-state complex exhibits strong fluorescence emission at room temperature.
