Russian Composer Tchaikovsky was born on this day

Born on this day in 1840, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky was a Russian composer of the Romantic period. He was the first Russian composer whose music made a lasting impression internationally, which was bolstered by his appearances as a guest conductor in Europe and the United States. He was honored in 1884 by Tsar Alexander III and awarded a lifetime pension. The Year 1812 Solemn Overture, popularly known as the 1812 Overture, is a concert overture written in 1880 by Tchaikovsky to commemorate the successful Russian defense against Napoleon's invading Grande Armée in 1812.
