Abstract | In this paper, we report the preparation of oxidized cellulose acetate methyl esters (OCAM) from OCA (OC14A: carboxylic acid content 10.6% (w/w), degree of acetyl group substitution: 1.89; OC21A: carboxylic acid content 15.7% (w/w), degree of acetyl group substitution: 1.70) by treatment with methanol at room temperature using 4-dimethylaminopyridine (DMAP) as a catalyst and dicyclohexylcarbodiimide (DCC) as a coupling agent. The new polymers were characterized by Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) and (1)H and (13)C nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopies, carboxylic acid content determination, moisture sorption isotherms, intrinsic viscosity, and powder X-ray diffractometry. The new polymers are amorphous powders. It is practically insoluble in water but show solubility in a range of organic solvents. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT).
