Critical Temperature of Smart Meta-superconducting MgB$_{2}$

Abstract Enhancing the critical temperature (T $_{ C }$) is important not only to widen the practical applications but also to expand the theories of superconductivity. Inspired by the meta-material structure, we designed a smart meta-superconductor consisting of MgB$_{2}$ microparticles and Y$_{2}$O$_{3}$/Eu$^{3+}$ nanorods. In the local electric field, Y$_{2}$O$_{3}$/Eu$^{3+}$ nanorods generate an electroluminescence (EL) that can excite MgB$_{2}$ particles, thereby improving the T $_{ C }$ by strengthening the electron–phonon interaction. An MgB$_{2}$-based superconductor doped with one of four dopants of different EL intensities was prepared by an ex situ process. Results showed that the T $_{ C }$ of MgB$_{2}$ doped with 2 wt% Y$_{2}$O$_{3}$, which is not an EL material, is 33.1 K. However, replacing Y$_{2}$O$_{3}$ with Y$_{2}$O$_{3}$/Eu$^{3+}$II, which displays a strong EL intensity, can improve the T $_{ C }$ by 2.8 to 35.9 K, which is even higher than that of pure MgB$_{2}$. The significant increment in T $_{ C }$ results from the EL exciting effect. Apart from EL intensity, the micromorphology and degree of dispersion of the dopants also affected the T $_{ C }$. This smart meta-superconductor provides a new method to increase T $_{ C }$.

About National Digital Library of India (NDLI)
NDLI logo

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). Filtered and federated searching is employed to facilitate focused searching so that learners can find the right resource with least effort and in minimum time. NDLI provides user group-specific services such as Examination Preparatory for School and College students and job aspirants. Services for Researchers and general learners are also provided. NDLI is designed to hold content of any language and provides interface support for 10 most widely used Indian languages. It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
