Abstract The authors look at the problem of generation of whistler radiation, between the ion and electron gyrofrequency, in the ionosphere from the interaction of ion-acoustic turbulence. They assume the ion-acoustic turbulence originates either from field-aligned currents, or from Langmuir waves generated by some type of beam-plasma interaction. They look at the type of whistler radiation which could result from small auroral events, electron beam injection experiments, or deployment of tethered satellites.
