Abstract The measurement of electrolyte uptake by ion-exchange mesis is shown to be subject to consistent experimental ermor and to imperfections within ion- exchange resins. A treatment is presented for handling tue imperfections ana lytically so as to remove their effect upon the maeasured electrolyte distribution. The logaritam of tae invading species activity coefficient. defined to exclude these imperfections, is thus found to vary linearly with co- ion concentration over a wide range. It is shows that this result is required by a simplified theoretical treatment of invading ion interactions. (auth)
