Abstract This paper presents observations of very low frequency radiation in the lower part of the ionosphere from a polar orbiting satellite at low latitudes. It was able to record several observation of low frequency radiation which is very close to a harmonic of the 50 Hz line frequency. The frequency is observed to drift in time, from 1 to 8 Hz/sec. They are not sure how to account for this apparent non-linear coupling of these very low frequency waves into the ionosphere.
