Abstract This chapter presents evidence on the quantity and quality of self-employment activities by disadvantaged and under-represented groups, including women, young people, older people, ethnic minorities and immigrants, those with low education and income levels, the disabled and the unemployed. Together these groups account for the majority of self-employment activities in Europe. The prevalence of self-employment activities varies widely across and within groups. Moreover, the activity levels vary greatly across EU member states.
