Abstract The transformation relating the expansion of hadronic states in the current and constituent quark bases is studied in the context of the vector-gluon model. A phenomenological approach is used to estimate the effects of interaction on the algebraic structure of matrix elements describing pionic, electromagnetic, and weak transitions of hadrons. Contributions of terms with exotic transformation properties are found to be negligible in most instances, but are important for higher moments of deep-inelastic structure functions. The magnitude of such terms is related to that of the mass splitting of SU(6) multiplets.
