Abstract Some results are given concerning the apparent transfer function measured by the cross-spectrum method on some special nonlinear systems. The nonlinear behavior in question is not evidenced by the usual coherence function. A method which characterizes both the linear and the nonlinear parts of the input-output relationship is then proposed.
