Abstract A simple methodology is presented for the calculation of back trajectories for distances of a few hundred kilometers, with corresponding horizontal dispersion, from surface data obtained at the receptor site. This methodology was used for generating maps, with eight-hour back trajectories, corresponding to a period of a year when ambient air particulate samples were collected at Bondville, IL. The samples were segregated into subsets, based on the maps, for a subsequent study of source-receptor relationships.
