Abstract Combine the fractional slot concentrated winding (CW) with inner evaporative cooling system (IECS), we can provide a new train of thought of cooling for the permanent magnet (PM) wind turbines. Wind generator with FSCW and IECS has some special characteristics compared with traditional wind generator with distributed wind (DW) and air cooling system. These must be considered during the design work. In this paper, we have a research for the above situation and proposed an optimal design method. A 5MW PM generator designed by the optimal design method is analyzed in no-load and rated load electromagnetic field simulation by finite element method (FEM) to prove the validity of the design model and method.
