Abstract A series of processes to ensure high quality capstone design projects have been developed. They address several aspects of the capstone design experience, including project selection, problem definition, ABET (accreditation board for engineering and technology) accreditation requirements, teamwork, program outcome evaluation and assessment, and relationships with industrial sponsors. The processes were developed and implemented over a period of 12 years, and the results have been positive. Project quality has continually improved, and difficulties associated with poorly performing teams have been reduced.
