Abstract The aim of soft computing is to mimic human reasoning. This is carried out well by using Zadeh's theories such as the theory of the information granulation. This aim also presupposes that the methods of the human sciences, both quantitative and qualitative approaches, should be applied. These methods are briefly described, and a soft computing modelling example concerning the hypothesis assessment simulation in the conduct of inquiry is presented.
