Abstract This paper presents the network frequency controlled by wind farm without supporting from other conventional power plants. The wind farm which consists of several wind turbines with doubly fed induction generators are divided into two groups and coordinated by a wind farm control center. The first group of wind turbines implements the kinetic energy control method, which can support fast frequency control. The second group of wind turbines activates the pitch control method, which can support long time frequency control. Therefore, the frequency drop can be stopped immediately by several wind turbines exploiting the kinetic energy, and the long period of frequency recovery can be supported by other wind turbines implementing the pitch control method.
