Abstract Lightning strikes may cause a rise in transmission tower potential which could produce a tower-to-phase flashover. This paper presents a computer-modeled technique applied to study this phenomena. 120 kV and 315 kV power lines have been modeled. Transmission tower potential is presented. An analysis method related to a miniaturized lightning wave generator (known as "GOFM") is currently undergoing validation. A few test results are given.
