Abstract In this paper we employ space-frequency coding to extend the current ECMA-368 proposal for multiband OFDM based ultrawideband systems towards increasing the raw transmission rate beyond 480 Mbps. Specifically we propose five new data rates - 600, 640, 720 , 800 and 960 Mbps, ensuring that the performance for each of these rates is not significantly worse than 480 Mbps. We also ensure that the new proposals are fully backward compatible and can be implemented as optional modes to the current standard. Extensive analytical formulations are done to derive the performance of the proposed schemes in presence of noise and multipath channel.
