Abstract Objectives. To evaluate the safety property of a novel whole-body perfusion system for hyperthermia in oncology, the organ temperature, blood pressure and heart rate response to extracorporeal circulation blood temperature were investigated in animal experimentation. Materials and Methods. The device is an apparatus and method for a perfusion hyperthermia treatment of a patient which obtains a body fluid having a particular temperature. The device can automatically monitors and controls a perfusion hyperthermia treatment. The device includes programmed computers, mechanical subsystems and sensor subsystems. Two dogs were used as experimental animals. Results. There is no over control of the temperature of blood and the control max error of the temperature of blood is 0.16degC using the whole-body perfusion system. As the temperature of blood increase, the temperatures of dog organ increase. When the temperature of blood maintain constant, the temperatures of dog organ would be drive to stabilization stage. As the temperature of blood changes, the blood pressure and heart rate of dog would not be clearly changed. Conclusions. Changes in the temperature of blood, as induced by the new computerized perfusion system developed by ourselves, may be secure for organ and heart function of animal. The control index properties of the system are fit for hyperthermia in oncology.
