Abstract Restoration planning is a challenging task as it includes almost all difficult issues encountered in normal operation condition, in conjunction with additional stability problems associated with a weak, possibly damaged grid. This paper presents some restoration planning experiences at the ISO-NE. Due to the complexities of the task, an automated restoration planning tool is used to help operators to create and test restoration plans automatically. Several real-system based scenario analyses using the automated tool are presented.
