Abstract Advances in digitalization of the terrestrial television signal emission have already become commercially available in many European countries based on the introduction of the digital video broadcasting -terrestrial (DVB-T) standard. As the DVB-T system is not completely suitable for mobile signal reception, a new digital video broadcasting -handheld (DVB-H) system with a number of innovations, intended for mobile signal reception by small, pocketsize receivers has been designed. The signals received on movement are influenced by the frequency Doppler shift, related to the rate of receiver movement and relative angle between the movement direction and signal direction. In this paper the impact of Doppler shift on mobile communication reception and technology to its reduction in DVB-H system are presented.
