Abstract Aiming at the shortcoming in previouse user mobility model, a novel user mobility model named as MB-HUMM, Markov-based hierarchical user mobility model, was proposed. The model adopted two hierarchical structure, GUM and LUM, for more exactly describing the character that mobile users move form a cell to another. And the GUM depicted the the macro mobility of mobile user among cell in a LA, the LUM depicted the micro mobility of mobile user in a cell. Then, the definition of the relation parameters was given. After that, the GUM and LUM was expressed by the parameters based on it. Furthermore, the migration process of model was given. At last, the simulation was made for validating the model. The result indicates the model can depict the user mobility well.
