Abstract We investigate the performance of the time-hopping pulse position modulation ultra-wideband (TH-PPM UWB) systems with the asynchronous multiple user interferences under the Nakagami-m fading channel. Analytical methods based on the Gaussian approximation (GA) technique and characteristic function (CF) technique are proposed to evaluate the bit error rate for the TH-PPM UWB systems under Nakagami-m fading channel. The analytical results obtained by CF method are validated by the simulation ones. It is showed that the GA cannot serve as a reliable performance predictor for TH-PPM UWB systems.
