Abstract Recently, a rigorous mathematical model for large flexible spacecraft, consisting of a rigid main body and a long flexible beamlike structure which is fixed to the body, was developed by S.S. Lim and N.U. Ahmed (1989). Based on this dynamic model for large flexible spacecraft, the authors propose a stabilizing control which can eliminate the vibration induced by slew-maneuvers in the presence of the random noise. In the investigation the problem of the mean square stabilization of the system is considered in the presence of random noise by applying localized feedback controls. Some numerical results are presented for illustration of the impact of random noise on the dynamic behavior of the system and the effectiveness of the suggested controls for the elimination of the vibrations. The results indicate that the feedback controls are robust with respect to the disturbances.<<ETX>>
