Abstract The {beta}-delayed {gamma} decay of {sup 108}Nb has been studied using the on-line mass-separator technique. The measured {beta}-decay half-life 0.20{plus_minus}0.03 s agrees with the previous measurement based on {beta}-delayed neutron detection. The lifetime of the first 2{sup +} state in {sup 108}Mo was measured to be 0.5{plus_minus}0.3 ns, which is consistent with a deformation {beta}{approx_equal}0.4. Spin and parity of 2{sup +} are suggested for the ground state of {sup 108}Nb. {copyright} {ital 1996 The American Physical Society.}
