Abstract As a result of irradiation with gamma-ray doses in the range 5-30 kilorad, no adverse effect on color, texture, taste, or flavor was found in any of the five fruits investigated. No ill effects on consumers, of any kind whatsoever, are likely to occur if fresh fruits are irradiated with such low doses. Thus, it appears that low-dose gamma irradiation of fresh fruits would be helpful in their transportation and marketing. (auth)
