Abstract The reaction Al/sup 27/( alpha ,n)P/sup 30/ was studied at 8.15-Mev bombarding energy using nuclear emulsions as detectors. Neutron groups corresponding to Q values of --2.70, --2.96, the resulting energy level structure in P/sup 30/ with that obtained by other reactions suggests the possible inversion of the two isobaric spin ground states.
