Abstract The ATLAS experiment at the LHC has undertaken a broad physics program to probe and characterize the hot nuclear matter created in relativistic lead-lead collisions. This overview presents recent results on production of electroweak bosons, charmonia, charged-particles, jets, and bulk particle collectivity from Pb+Pb and p+Pb collisions at 2.76 TeV and 5.02 TeV, respectively, as well as on electromagnetic processes in ultra-peripheral Pb+Pb collisions at 5.02 TeV.
