Abstract APL arrays can be perceived to consist of several parts. This concept is extended and rationalized. Together with keyed indexing, it allows to treat all entities in an APL system as arrays. The human interface to such a system is a recursive array editor (ae), which is isomorphic to the APL language. Finally, a design of such an editor for a workstation with bitmapped display is presented.
