Abstract The light output of Csl(Tl) was measured as a function of energy for incident ions of B/sup 1//sup 0/, B/sup 1//sup 1/, C/sup 1//sup 2/, N/sup 1//sup 4/, O/sup 1//sup 6/, and F/sup 1//sup 9/. The response of NE 102 plastic and anthracene scintillators was also measured for ions of N/sup 1//sup 4/ and O/sup 1//sup 6/, respectively. The response of Csl was essentially linear for energies above 6 Mev/nucleon. The NE 102 was linear for energies above 4 Mev/nucleon. The anthracene data showed slight curvature even at 9 Mev/nucleon. The response of Csl appeared to differ somewhat among crystal samples. (auth)
