Abstract A new method is used for description of multiplicity distributions with use of relations following from experiments. Hadron-production cross sections {sigma}{sub {ital n}} ({ital s}) are determined. A formula which has essentially two free parameters is obtained. Good agreement is obtained for the description of multiplicity distributions in hadron--nucleus interactions in the energy region 40--800 GeV.
