Abstract Thirty-one even-even isotopes ({ital Z}=72{endash}80 and {ital N}=110{endash}126) have two shape transition temperatures, where {ital T}{sub {ital c}2}{approx_gt}{ital T}{sub {ital c}1}. For temperatures above {ital T}{sub {ital c}1}, the equilibrium shape is spherical if the rotational frequency is zero. For these 31 nuclei, a slow rotation of the spherical shape creates a {ital prolate} shape rotating about its symmetry axis if the temperature is between {ital T}{sub {ital c}1} and {ital T}{sub {ital c}2}, and an oblate shape rotating about its symmetry axis if the temperature is above {ital T}{sub {ital c}2}. {copyright} {ital 1996 The American Physical Society.}
