Abstract This paper studies the perturbation of hydrogen peroxide in an oscillating chemical system involving the Mn(II)-catalyzed reaction between diacetone and potassium bromate in an acidic medium in a closed system (beaker) and an open system (continuous-flow-stirred tank reactor (CSTR)). The best reaction conditions and reactant concentrations are reported. The presence of $H_{2}O_{2}$ inhibits the oscillation and results in a longer oscillating periods. Potential and cyclic voltammetry were used to track the change of the reaction intermediates. The possible mechanism of the effect of hydrogen peroxide is discussed.
