Abstract In this letter, a receiving method for optical orthogonal frequency-division-multiplexed systems (OOFDM) is brought up to reduce the speed requirement of the electrical devices at the receiving end. Based on multiple channels, the speed of the analog-to-digital devices and the size of fast Fourier transform are reduced by the number of channels. An experiment of 10-Gb/s OOFDM is fundamentally demonstrated with a short reach of 100-km standard single-mode fiber. The complexity and tolerance to noise of the algorithm is analyzed.
