Abstract Certain competing reactions involving CH/sub 3/CO, CH/sub 3/, CH/sub 3/ OO. and H radicals were studied using the kinetic tracer method. It was shown that for the reaction CH/sub 3/CO + O/sub 2/ the activation energy is 8 kcal/mole and the preexponential factor is 10/sup -10/ cm/sup 3/ sec/sup -1/. The methyl radicalls in a mixture of C/sub 3/H/sub 6/ and O/sub 2/ at 315 deg C yield mainly oxygencontaining products and only small amounts of methane. The CH/sub 3/OO. radicals in the same mixture yieid formaldehyde and methanol at an approximately equal probability. Rite constants for reactions H + C/sub 2/H/sub 4/ yields C/ sub 2/H/sub 5/ and H + C/sub 3/H/sub 6/ yields C/sub 3/H/sub 7/ at 554 deg C are approximately the same. (au th)
