Abstract A gauge mapping theorem for the classical Rohrlich string has been proved by writing the string in terms of gauge-invariant variables. These gauge-invariant variables are shown to be classical analogs of Del Giudice--Di Vecchia--Fulsini--type operators of the Rohrlich string.
