Subject Keyword Householder reduction
Abstract This tutorial discusses Householder reduction of<?Pub Fmt italic>n<?Pub Fmt /italic> linear equations to a triangularform which can be solved by back substitution. The main strength of themethod is its unconditional numerical stability. We explain howHouseholder reduction can be derived from elementary-matrix algebra. Themethod is illustrated by a numerical example and a Pascal procedure. Weassume that the reader has a general knowledge of vector and matrixalgebra but is less familiar with linear transformation of a vectorspace.—<?Pub Fmt italic>Author's Abstract<?Pub Fmt /italic>
