Abstract The equilibrium and dynamic properties of a single star polymer immersed in a bath of linear molecules were studied using a Monte Carlo computer simulation technique. Attention was focused on the shape fluctuations of the stars as described by the eigenvalues of the radius-of-gyration tensor. We also studied the center-of-mass diffusion and the rigid body rotation of the stars. We find that the star molecules contract and change shape as the concentration of linear bath molecules increases. The diffusion, rotation, and shape relaxation are all slowed by the presence of the bath molecules. 8 refs., 2 figs., 4 tabs.
