Abstract This paper discusses the measurement of picosecond time-resolved absorption spectrum measurements of diphenylacetylene in various solvents. S{sub n}{l_arrow}S{sub 1} transition caused bands at 435 and 700 nm while absorption from a second excited singlet state (S{sub 2}) caused a band at 500 nm, which was the fluorescence state of DPA. The 500 nm band has and Arrhenius type temperature dependence but the S{sub 1} did not. Turnover of the S{sub 1}-S{sub 2} coupling may explain the large temperature effect of the S{sub 2} state lifetime. 13 refs., 7 figs., 2 tabs.
