Abstract The transfer of excitation energy between molecules of different compounds in solutions is investigated as a func tion of temperature and viscosity of the solution. In all cases an increase in transfer efficiency with increasing diffusion is observed. The fluorescence of the donor molecules in the absence of acceptor molecules is studied as a function of temperature and the possible influence of the respective changes on the observed transfer efficiencies is discussed.
