Abstract The photomultiplier tube is enclosed in an inner chamber which is insulated from the outer chamber. Inlets and exits for the coolant gas, photomultiplier leads, and quartz light pipe are provided. The coolant is compressed air that is passed through liquid nitrogen to obtain --180 deg C. The chamber was used in conjunction with a 250-mm monochromator with greatly increased resolution. (R.E.U.)
