Abstract Comparative analysis of gas lasers pumped by {gamma}-radiation for ignition experiment is carried out. The possibilities of frequency-time pulse shaping are discussed for these kinds of laser drivers. New type of ICF target (LIGHT-target), which is able to provide an uniform deposition of laser driver energy is proposed as a target for ignition experiment. {copyright} {ital 1996 American Institute of Physics.}
