Abstract Applications of ion-exchanging materials to chemical separations in columns are reviewed. The exploitation of existing methods, such as the use of anion exchange in complexing media to separate metals, is discussed. Some inorganic exchangers have been studied systematically, and new ones have been prepared; mixed solvents have been put to good use in metal separations; techniques have been developed for monitoring column effluents automatically, especially techniques in which reagents are fed continuously into effluent streams for color development. Advances have also been made in the theory of column performance and of isotope separation 152 references are included for the period through Dec. 1963. (P.C.H.)
