Abstract The index of seed productivity of species belonging to the genus Alhagi, which reflects their fitness in arid conditions, varies from 7.1 to 19.3%. Both abiotic and biotic factors cause a decrease in seed productivity. Only 9.3–13.8% of the seedlings reach the generative stage, while the major part dies at the seedling or juvenile stage.
