Abstract The parameters of the axial guiding magnetic field in a free electron laser based on stimulated Raman scattering are optimized, to maximize the increase in the laser gain achieved by magnetic confinement of a high-current electron beam and by cyclotron resonance effects. Experimental testing and measurement are performed for free-electron laser radiation in the K/sub a/ band.
