The shell dependence was studied in some detail. It is found that minlma in the cross sections are present in all the major proton shell closure positions of the residual nuclear charge Z/sub R/. There are sub-minima in all the known proton sub-shell closure regions at Z/sub R/ = 2, 14, approximately 32, approximately 38, 58, and approximately 72. No minima due to neutron shells or sub-shells are observed except in cases of the doubly magic nuclei.
