Abstract Photoneutrons from Ca and K irradiated with 31 Mev bremsstrahlung were studied by means of nuclear plates. Neutrons emitted at 90 deg from Ca and 60 deg , 90 deg , and 120 deg from K are recorded. The spectra show that at least approximately 50% of the neutrons above 2 Mev are due to direct process. For Ca and for K, a second resonance seems to exist about 10 Mev above the threshold. At 31 Mev, photoneutron yields for Ca and K (neutron/mole - roentgen) at theta approximately -90 deg and for E/sub n/ > 2 Mev are about the same: (Y/sub Ca/Y/ sub K/) approximately -1.1. (auth)
