Abstract A field experiment was conducted at the Instructional Farm, Department of Agronomy, Junagadh Agricultural University, Junagadh during summer season of the year 2007-2008 to study the “Effect of Integrated nutrient management on growth, quality and yield of clusterbean (Cyamopsis tetragonoloba (L.) Taub) var. Pusa Navbahar†. The objective of the experiment was to get the specific information on effect of organic fertilizer (FYM), bio-fertilizer (Phosphate solubilizing micro organisms) and inorganic fertilizers on clusterbean var. ‘Pusa Navbahar’ with respect to growth, quality, yield attributing parameters and yield. The experiment consisting of twelve treatment combinations, comprising of three levels of FYM viz., FYM @ 5 t ha-1 (F1), FYM @ 10 t ha-1 (F2), FYM @ 15 t ha-1 (F3), two bio-fertilizer (PSB) levels viz., control (B1) and 2.5 kg/ha (B2 and two levels of recommended dose of fertilizers viz., half recommended dose (R1) and full recommended dose (25:37.5:37.5 Kg NPK/ha) (R2) were embedded in a Factorial Randomized Block Design with three replications. The results of the experiment indicated that clusterbean crop manured with FYM @ 10 (F2) and 15 t ha-1 (F3) were found equally effective and superior to FYM @ 5 t ha-1 (F1) with respect to growth parameters viz. plant height and number of leaves per plant, quality parameters viz. gum and protein content, yield attributes like pod length, number of pods per cluster, number of seeds per pod and pod yield per plant. The highest pod yield (53.75 q ha-1) was obtained when the crop was manured with FYM @ 15 t ha-1 (F3). Similar trend was noticed in case of nutrient uptake of N, P2O5 and K2O in plant and available nutrients in the soil. In case of nutrient content of the plant as well as the available nutrient status of the soil the highest values were obtained when the crop was manured with FYM @ 15 t ha-1 (F3) and was found to be statistically at par with FYM @ 10 t ha-1 (F2). The crop manured with FYM @ 15 t ha-1 (F3) recorded the highest net realization of Rs. 15002 and a CBR of 1:3.02 Seed inoculation with PSB (Pseudomonas striata) significantly increased the growth parameters except plant population and days to fifty per cent flowering. Quality parameters like gum and protein contents were influenced by the seed inoculation with PSB. The yield attributes and yield were also influenced by seed inoculation with PSB (P. striata) (B2). Significantly the higher pod yield (51.68 q ha-1) was reported when seed was inoculated with PSB. Seed inoculation with PSB increased the nutrient content and uptake by the crop and also available nutrient status of the soil after the harvest of the crop. Seed inoculation with PSB (B2) recorded the higher net realization and CBR of Rs. 16867 and 1:2.91 respectively. Fertilizing the crop with full recommended dose of fertilizers (R2) significantly increased the growth parameters like plant height and number of leaves per plant. Days to fifty per cent flowering was found to be lesser when fertilized with the full recommended dose (R2). In case of the number of leaves per plant and plant height at 60 DAS, it was found statistically at par with half recommended dose (R1). Quality parameters like gum and protein contents were also significantly influenced with the application of full recommended dose of fertilizers (R2). Significant increase in the yield and yield attributes were seen with the application of full recommended dose of fertilizers (R2). The highest pod yield (52.68 q ha-1) was obtained with the application of full recommended dose of fertilizers (R2). The nutrient content and uptake of the plant as well as the available nutrient status of the soil after the harvest of the crop significantly increased with the application of full recommended dose of fertilizers (R2). A net realization of Rs. 16289 and a CBR of 1:2.62 was obtained when the crop was given full recommended dose of the fertilizers (R2). The interaction effect of FYM x bio-fertilizer (PSB) (F x B), FYM x recommended dose of fertilizer (F x R), bio-fertilizer (PSB) x recommended dose of fertilizer (B x R) and FYM x bio-fertilizer (PSB) x recommended dose of fertilizer (F x B x R) for the various characters studied were found to be non significant. From the present study, it can be indicated that on the basis of net returns and cost benefit ratio the treatment combination consisting FYM @ 15 t ha-1 (F3), PSB @ 2.5 kg ha-1 (B2) and full recommended dose of fertilizers (R2) could be recommended for the ‘Pusa Navbahar’ variety of clusterbean grown in the early summer season.
