Abstract The present study was conducted in Coastal region (Zone-10) of Karnataka during 2014-15 to assess the perception, crisis management of farmers due to climate change and to document the constraints experienced to manage climate induced crisis. Visible variation in rainfall and temperature was observed hence, these climate parameters were considered for the study. The data was collected from 240 fishery based farmers of coastal region of Karnataka selected by applying proportionate random sampling technique and pretested interview schedule. It was found that farmers experienced decreasing and unpredictable trend of rainfall, besides increasing temperature and delayed onset of monsoon. Analysis of this trend was validated with their perceptions. Farmers were expressed that climate change has affected their farming through frequent crop failures and declining crop yield. Important climate induced crisis management strategies initiated by them changes in the varieties, time of planting, switching over to other crops, soil and water conservation was observed. About 43 per cent of farmers’ had medium crisis management and nearly equal (28) per cent had low and high crisis management. Majority of the big farmers’ had initiated better crisis management strategies than small and marginal farmers. The major constraints experienced was, higher labour wage rate and low price for the produce in the market. Early warning about environmental changes and incentives/support for increasing the green manuring, were the major suggestions expressed by farmers to mitigate ill effect of climate change.
