Subject Keyword Effect of Polyembryonic Rootstocks On Mango Cultivars ♦ Horticulture
Abstract In the present investigation growth, yield, fruit quality, physio-chemical parameters and leaf nutrient composition of five mango cultivars grafted on three polyembryonic rootstock genotypes were studied during 2012-2015 under field conditions.Growth parameters revealed the highest canopy volume in Pusa Arunima (21.22 m3 ) and Dushehari (8.26 m3 ) on Olour rootstock, while it was found highest in Mallika (19.70 m 3 ) on K-5. Both K-5 and Kurakkan for Amrapali and Olour and Kurakkan for Pusa Surya appeared to be vigorous rootstocks. Besides, higher number of fruits/tree, yield and yield efficiency were observed on Kurakkan in Pusa Arunima, Amrapali and Pusa Surya. Mallika trees either on K-5 or Kurakkan produced highest fruits/tree, yield/tree and yield efficiency. In most of the cultivars, fruit weight was not influenced significantly by rootstock-scion combinations. Fruit quality data showed that Kurakkan induced acidity in Pusa Arunima (0.32%), while Pusa Surya fruit had higher acidity (0.30%) on Olour rootstock, while both Olour and Kurakkan increased pulp acidity in Amrapali. Olour and Kurakkan rootstocks increased total sugars in Pusa Arunima, Pusa Surya and Mallika fruits. Total β carotenoids in pulp on Pusa Arunima (8.51 mg/100 g pulp) and Pusa Surya (14.49 mg/100 g pulp) were witnessed highest on Olour and Kurakkan respectively. Olour and K-5 rootstocks induced higher leaf photosynthetic rate in Pusa Surya, Dushehari and Amrapali but it was higher on Olour and Kurakkan in Pusa Arunima Moreover, leaf peroxidase (POX) activity was estimated higher on K-5 rootstock in Amrapali, while leaves of Pusa Arunima and Pusa Surya had higher POX activity on Olour and Kurakkan, respectively. Furthermore, leaf nitrogen (1.25%) and K (0.54%) in Pusa Arunima was observed higher on K-5 rootstock, while higher leaf N in Amrapali (1.36%) and Mallika (1.37%) was estimated on Kurakkan rootstock but Pusa Surya trees on Olour had higher leaf N (1.26%). Trees of most of the cultivars on K-5 rootstock had the higher leaf Ca and Mg concentrations. Based on horticultural traits (higher tree vigour, yield, pulp recovery, Total β carotenoidscontent and lower acidity) it appears that Olour/Pusa Arunima, Kurakkan/Pusa Surya, Kurakkan/Amrapali, K-5/Amrapali, K-5/Mallika and 132 Kurakkan/Dushehari combinations revealed their excellence over other rootstock/scion combinations.
