Abstract Blight of bell pepper [Capsicum annuum var. grossum (L.) Sendt.] was observed for the first time at Udaipur during the month of August and October, 2006 on leaves and fruits. Fungal pathogen was isolated, purified and identified as Drechslera bicolor (Mitra) Subram. & Jain. Pathogenicity tests were confirmed on bell pepper plants and fruits and also on fruits of chilli, tomato and brinjal. In vitro physiological studies revealed that fungus grew and sporulated well on Potato dextrose, Malt extract and Richard’s solid and liquid media. Maximum mycelial growth and sporulation were favoured by 25  2°C temperature, 100 per cent relative humidity level, brown light and pH range 6.5. Highest spore germination was also observed at 100 per cent humidity level. Vitavax was found best fungicide followed by Thiram. Maximum fungal growth inhibition was obtained by neem leaves followed by lantana leaves extracts.
